How do I become a member, and how much does it cost?
It’s easy to become a member. Simply fill out a membership application at one of our happy hours and turn it in *OR* download a form to complete manually and mail the form along with the membership fee ($40 individual/ $50 family) to the club’s PO Box.
How many members are in the club?
Currently we have about 500 members.
How old do I have to be to join?
Membership is open to those 21 years and older.
Do I need to be from Springfield or central Illinois to join the Club?
Absolutely not! There are no location requirements in order to be a member. Oftentimes a member will have family or friends from other states who join in order to travel on a trip with the member.
Do I have to know how to ski to be a member?
No, not at all! We welcome skiers and non-skiers alike! We have many opportunities to be involved in sports and activities other than skiing, including golf, tennis, 8-ball pool, and bowling. We have members who organize bike trips, canoe trips, camping trips, and much more. SSC hosts a number of parties, Happy Hours, and other social activities throughout the year. We also we take day trips and longer sight-seeing trips to destinations that have nothing to do with snow skiing, such as baseball games, wineries, brew pubs, shopping trips to Chicago, and more.
What is the SSC Happy Hour?
Our monthly Happy Hour socials are informal gatherings of the ski club that usually feature entertainment and sometimes food and drink specials. They are held at various locations in Springfield and usually begin at 5 pm. Happy Hours are open to anyone and are a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about SSC and meeting some of our members.
What are SSC Sign-Up Parties?
SSC hosts two Sign-Up Parties each year, one for fall/winter activities and one for spring/summer activities. This is your first chance to sign-up to take part in the trips and activities planned for the upcoming season. These parties are members-only events, and sign-up is on a first come, first served basis. Members must make the required down payment for each seat reserved on the trip at the time of signup. Individual checks payable to the Springfield Ski Club are required for each trip/activity.
